Kojima Productions has shared several new snippets of footage for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, including a look at the upcoming game’s very realistic photo mode and Sam Bridges’ stop motion puppet companion, Dollman.
The footage was shared as part of a Death Stranding 2 panel, which was held at Tokyo Game Show this weekend. In the time since, Kojima Productions has steadily uploaded the English footage for the game to social media.

A demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio, Atlus’ forthcoming epic RPG, is seemingly on the way across PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
At present, the demo is live in Korea and Hong Kong, though there’s currently no schedule for its release in the West.
According to the description for the Hong Kong Xbox listing, the Metaphor: ReFantazio – Prologue Demo includes the opening of the game, with saved data carrying over to the full release.

Airship Syndicate, the studio behind the likes of Darksiders Genesis and Wayfinder, has announced its second round of layoffs in less than a year. These latest job cuts will impact 16 employees, with Airship blaming “difficult challenges facing our industry.”

The studio initially laid off 12 people back in January, two months after its publishing agreement with Warframe developer Digital Extremes – which was handling Airship’s free-to-play fantasy game Wayfinder – collapsed. Since then, Wayfinder has been reworked and re-announced as a single-player title, the overhauled game eventually releasing back in June.

Unfortunately, its retooling doesn’t seem to have given Airship a sufficient boost. In a statement shared on LinkedIn announcing the studio’s latest layoffs, CEO Joe Madureira and president Ryan Stefanelli explained, “In light of the difficult challenges facing our industry, we’ve had to make the tough decision to let go of some incredibly talented Airship team members, including 12 full-time employees and four contractors.”

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game – a game about “finding joy in the small moments” and living as a hobbit – has landed itself a release date.
Tales of the Shire players will be able to take part in a number of cosy, hobbit activities, such as fishing, gathering mushrooms and cooking up meals for their friends, when the game makes its debut. They will also be able to personalise their inherited hobbit hole, to just how they like it.

Krafton’s acquisition of Hi-Fi Rush studio Tango Gameworks was motivated by the desire to maintain its legacy, rather than actually make money.
Krafton boss Changhan ‘CH’ Kim spoke to Game Developer about the “last minute deal” after the studio was closed by Microsoft alongside Arkane Austin and Alpha Dog Games back in May.
Tango was acquired by Krafton last month, although only 50 out of the original 100 staff will transfer over.

Four years after announcing a new Skate game – and two years after eliciting collective groans with the news it would be free-to-play – EA has revealed the latest instalment in its long-running skateboarding series will launch into early access next year.

When developer Full Circle first began sharing details of its new Skate project (which is officially known as Skate, rather than Skate 4) back in 2022, the studio explained it wasn’t “a sequel, it’s not a remake, a reboot, [or] a prequel.” Instead, it was described as an “authentic evolution” of the series intended to reflect “where skateboarding and gaming is in the real world”.

Two years on, and Skate – which is set in San Vansterdam, a sister city to previous games’ San Vanelona – has already been available to a steadily growing number of early playtesters for quite some time. It was also briefly available to considerably more than a select few players after an early build of the game was leaked back in 2022.

Evening Star, the studio behind Penny’s Big Breakaway, has announced half a dozen layoffs.
CTO Hunter Bridges announced the redundancies on X/Twitter, saying, “this isn’t a choice we wanted to make”, but “due to volatile market conditions in the games industry and operational realities of our business, Evening Star is having to part ways with six team members”.

Flappy Bird, the infuriating mobile game, is set to make a return later this year.
The game grew to tremendous popularity with over 100 million people playing it, but in 2014 original developer Dong Nguyen removed the game from sale despite it generating a reported $50,000 a day in advertising revenue.
A decade later and Flappy Bird will return this autumn, followed by dedicated mobile apps coming to iOS and Android next year, as well as other platforms.

Microsoft has again confirmed the delay to the Xbox release of Black Myth: Wukong is not due to “platform limitations”.
Game Science’s action-RPG was released last month on PC and PS5, but the Xbox version was delayed for an unknown reason. Speculation grew the developer was struggling to run the game on the Series S console, while other rumours suggested the game was in fact a PlayStation console exclusive.
A representative from Microsoft has now confirmed to Forbes the game is still on the way, though it won’t comment “on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders”.
